Welcome to the Umpire Resource Center. On this page you will find a calendar of training events, useful links, and files for umpires.

Want to be an umpire?
There is always a need for umpires, below are requirements to join an umpire crew.

In order to begin you must be aged 10+ and have taken at least District 62's Fast Start clinic. D62 schedule of clinics, certification requirements and other information can be found here.

CMALL has loaner equipment umpires can use each game, including: Chest protectors, shin guards, masks, outer shirts, caps, ball bags, ball-strike indicator, plate brushes. Umpires can always use their own equipment. CMALL also provides cold drinks and lunch (Spring)/Snacks (Fall).
Umpires need to provide: Grey or black pants, protective cup (home plate), undershirt, underwear, belt, socks, closed toe shoes, their time and a willingness to learn.
D62 provides: Basic to advanced training and mentors on and off the field.

Little League Umpiring 101, provides basic umpiring information for Little League umpires.

Baseball Online Umpire Quiz, users can take quizzes on basic to advanced umpire rules and decisions.


Close Call Sports & Umpire Ejection Fantasy League, offers detailed explanation of MLB ejections, various rule discussions and umpire statistics.

Umpire Podcasts

12 for 12 with Gerry Davis, Podcast hosted by CMALL Manager and D62 Umpire Galel Fajardo with MLB Umpire Gerry Davis and other MLB umpires.


The Plate Meeting Podcast from Close Call Sports. Hosts talk baseball umpiring with umpires, and discuss additional officiating related issues, including analysis or other conversation pertaining to plays, ejections, rules, and more.

Background Check

Background CheckCriminal Background Check Information

Please be advised that Costa Mesa American Little League obtains criminal background checks for volunteer managers, coaches, board members, assistant coaches, umpires and any other persons, volunteers and/or hired workers who provide regular services to or who have repetitive access to, or contact with, players or teams. Additionally, please be advised that the criminal background checks (conducted through JDP) include a state and federal criminal history with sex offender information. The criminal background check, which is conducted annually, does not include a subsequent arrest notification after the background check has been completed. Finally, please be advised that depending on the information provided by individual states, some background checks are conducted by name only. If an applicant’s name matches a criminal record or a name on a registry in one of these states, the applicant will be notified by mail of the match. Please note this notification is required by law and does not mean the criminal record is now associated with your personal information.
